It has leaves with a bare petiole terminating in a rounded fan of numerous leaflets. Tu étais ébloui par la tenue des femmes dans la rue, par les caftans verts qui laissent apparaître des doublures safran, par les foulards bordés de franges de jais mais aussi les jacarandas et les melias bleus, les hibiscus rouges, les clivias orange, les nymphéas nacrés. C’est là, j’en tmoigne, que tu as été le plus heureux. Même si son travail tend à l’épure, il n’hésite pas à jouer avec les effets de matière&amp;nbsp;: fils de soie noire pareils à de longs cheveux, sculptures de raphia, voire de métal, soie froissée ou roulottée, broderies…&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Ses couleurs fétiches sont le noir et le blanc et les couleurs de terre. Il utilise des teintures savantes et les tatouages au henné et va jusqu’à peindre lui-même ses créations...&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Mais c’est avant tout les coupes qui font l’originalité de ses modèles&amp;nbsp;: longues, fluides ou rigides, toujours très structurées. Cette ville lui rappelle l’Algérie de son enfance et il s’y sent chez lui. Mais c’est surtout un choc esthétique et sensuel. Il dira plus tard «&amp;nbsp;Avant, je n’utilisais que des teintes sombres. Le Maroc est arrivé avec ses couleurs… Celles de la terre et du sable. Mais aussi celles de la rue&amp;nbsp;: les femmes en caftan turquoise, mauve… Et le ciel.&amp;nbsp;» D’après Laurence Benaïm, cette découverte est pour lui une véritable initiation, Marrakech devient sa «&amp;nbsp;capitale de la lumière et du désir&amp;nbsp;».&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;Yves Saint Laurent et Pierre Bergé achètent une maison dans les trois jours, le Dar el Hanch (la maison du serpent), au beau-frère de Barbara Hutton. C’est une maison simple et pleine de charme, «&amp;nbsp;les pièces sont comme de petites boîtes, reliées les unes autres par des escaliers miniatures. Ils l’ont introduite dès le XIème siècle en Italie, en Sicile et en Espagne. Elle s’est ensuite implantée dans l’ensemble du bassin méditerranéen. &lt;span style="color: black;"&gt;Les Maures le cultivèrent intensivement près de Séville en Espagne, c’est la raison pour laquelle est parfois dénommée orange de Séville.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black;"&gt;Le bigaradier est un arbre de 5 à 10 mètres. Ses feuilles sont ovales, luisantes et persistantes avec une épine à l'aisselle des feuilles inférieures. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black;"&gt;Les fleurs de notre oranger amer sont blanches, plus grandes que celle de l'oranger doux et sont très odorantes. Notre bigaradier fleurit au mois de mars et le parfum que diffuse ses fleurs dans tout le Riyad est un vrai bonheur...&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="color: black;"&gt;Le fruit du bigaradier est récolté en décembre. Plus petit que l'orange douce, sa peau est rugueuse et parfois teintée de jaune. Sa chair est acide, peu juteuse, très amère et contient beaucoup de pépins.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm;"&gt;En Orient, la bigarade a été utilisée de tout temps par les cuisiniers arabes qui se sont inspirés des Perses. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm;"&gt;L’eau de fleur d’oranger est utilisée aussi bien en pâtisserie et pour les entremets qu’en cuisine salée comme l’eau de rose. Les Libanais font le café blanc à base d’eau chaude sucrée ou non selon le goût, et d’eau de fleur d’oranger&amp;nbsp;; cette boisson est réputée pour son goût incomparable et ses propriétés digestives. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0cm;"&gt;En Occident, la pulpe une fois cuite sert à la fabrication des fameuses confitures anglaises, les «&amp;nbsp;orange marmelades&amp;nbsp;», et des fruits confits. Les languettes d'écorce sont délicieuses confites ou enrobées de chocolat. Il est intéressant de relever que le mot fondouk lui-même serait issu du voyage puisqu’il dériverait du grec &lt;i&gt;pandokeia&lt;/i&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: normal;"&gt;.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;Les fondouks du quartier étaient autrefois fréquentés par les marchands de Fès (d’où le nom de «&amp;nbsp;souk des Fassis&amp;nbsp;». En effet, l’accès à la vieille ville depuis la route de Fès se faisait autrefois par la porte de Bab el Khemis toute proche. C’est aussi la raison pour laquelle de nombreuses familles originaires de Fès avaient leur demeure dans le quartier.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;D’un point de vue architectural, ces bâtiments ont une architecture remarquable et caractéristique&amp;nbsp;: à l’extérieur des hauts murs (sans doute pour se protéger des voleurs) et une large et haute double porte centrale permettant le passage des animaux et de leur charge. L’intérieur s’articule autour d’un patio entouré sur quatre côtés et sur deux étages par des galeries. Le rez-de-chaussée abritait les boutiques et des écuries, les étages comportaient les logements des marchands de passage.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;Aujourd’hui, les fondouks ne sont plus des auberges mais abritent des artisans et des boutiques. Le Roi alla ensuite prier à la Mosquée Ben Youssef voisine.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;Cet épisode nous a été raconté par Moulay Hafid El Alaoui.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;Le Riyad appartenait alors à son père qui était un prince de la famille alaouite.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;Il ne reste malheureusement pas de photographie de ce moment et les souvenirs de Moulay Haafid qui n’était alors qu’un petit garçon de cinq ans demeurent flous.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;Mais le petit garçon avait saisi l’importance de l’événement et l’honneur que faisait à son père son illustre parent.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;On imagine le Roi cheminant à pied dans le derb, accompagné d’une suite restreinte.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;Dans la galerie du premier étage du Riyad el Mezouar trône un vase Médicis en bois laqué en noir.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;D’esprit néo-classique, il s’harmonise parfaitement avec l’architecture du lieu et ses murs blancs.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;Trouvé il y a une dizaine d’années chez un brocanteur du Souk El Khemis (le marché aux puces de Marrakech), ce vase faisait partie de l’ancienne décoration de la Mamounia.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;Un vase analogue, resté plus longtemps dans les murs de l’hôtel mais malencontreusement relaqué en bleu, figurait d’ailleurs dans la vente du mobilier de l’hôtel qui a eu lieu en mai 2009.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;Souvenir du palace mythique qu’est la Mamounia, le parcours de ce vase nous rappelle que tous les objets sont soumis à la même contrainte&amp;nbsp;: le caprice de la mode…&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="separator" style="clear: both; It is a very natural and beautiful place. Its traditional application includes being polished with a river stone and treated with soft soap to acquire its final appearance and water resistance. It is the traditional coating of the parts of the buildings which are exposed to water: mainly the hammams (traditional Moorish baths) and some of the outside walls of the &lt;i&gt;riyads&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB"&gt; of Marrakech.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB"&gt;In accordance with this tradition, we used &lt;i&gt;tadelakt&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span lang="EN-GB"&gt; in Riyad el Mezouar in the bathrooms of the Kubba and Alaoui Rooms and Mezouar Junior Suite. The word “riyad” comes from the Arabian term for garden.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I found this interesting passage about Persian gardens in Susha Guppy’s captivating book, The Blindfold Horse, Memories of a Persian Childhood:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;i&gt;“In most European languages, the words “garden” and “paradise” are related to the ancient Persian word “paradaiza”, meaning ‘the Lord’s Enclosure’. In Persia, where rainfall is limited to a short season and water is always scarce, making a garden traditionally meant creating a personal paradise, a reflection on earth of the Garden of Eden. It expressed the soul’s aspiration to eternal peace and beauty.
